Construction site open day at the Steinbühl Tunnel

"We are completely overwhelmed by what great interest the Construction Site Open Day has met with here at the Albaufstieg," says Georg Brunnhuber, Chairman of the Association of the Stuttgart-Ulm Railway Project e.V., on the occasion of the approximately 6,000 visitors at the Construction Site Open Day.

"Our concept was a complete success: First-hand information on the rail project, directly on site and combined with an entertaining supporting program - that was a successful mix for a summery autumn day." This was only possible because the contractor's miners and engineers were available to answer questions and set up the construction machines. In addition, the guests were able to experience the tunnel construction virtually live by means of the association's latest exhibit, and they were also able to walk a few meters into the completed tunnel.

Special thanks are also due to DB Projekt Stuttgart-Ulm as the client, which works day after day to complete the project on time and within budget and yet always involves the local population on the occasion of construction milestones. On Friday (06 November), the entire construction site team celebrated the official breakthrough of the two tubes of the Steinbühl Tunnel. "We know that a construction site can be stressful, but as we saw today, a construction site can also inspire." He added that the association will continue and expand its work on this point. For example, it plans to open the construction sites around the main train station in Stuttgart at the beginning of January and present a colorful supporting program. In addition to the open construction site days, the association also offers guided tours of construction sites, including the Steinbühl Tunnel. Due to strong demand, this is fully booked until the end of 2016.
