Open Construction Site Days 2026 get off to an extremely successful start - people are delighted with the modernized Bonatz building and the station architecture
Together with DB Projekt Stuttgart-Ulm GmbH (PSU), the Stuttgart-Ulm rail project association opened the construction site gates around Stuttgart Central Station for the tenth time on Holy Saturday (April 4). Over 26,000 interested visitors were able to view the construction site, which is around 900 meters long and almost 150 meters wide, under cloudy skies but in mild temperatures. This year, the focus is on the modernization of the cityscape-defining Bonatz building, which last year could only be viewed from the outside but not visited.
„The demand for tickets was incredibly high! We were therefore fully booked even before the event began, so we could have issued several thousand more tickets per day,“ said a visibly delighted Bernhard Bauer, Chairman of the Stuttgart-Ulm Railway Project Association. „It is a pleasure to see how much curiosity and interest people show when they come to the construction site to see the progress of this complex project with their own eyes and to talk to the experts. But it's even better when they leave the construction site enthusiastic,“ says Bauer, summarizing his impressions of the first event day.
For the tenth time since 2016, the association is opening the construction site of the new Stuttgart through station together with the project partners. Admission is free of charge. Due to the large crowds and the space available, registration was again necessary this year. Around 26,000 tickets are available per day.
Admission starts at 10 a.m. - and then every half hour. The last admission is at 4 pm. The last entrance to the distribution bridge with a view of the station concourse is at 4:30 pm. The construction site must be cleared by 5 pm.
Once again, numerous partners of the project will be presenting their focal points: the Stuttgart Rosenstein urban development project, the state's local transport brand „bwegt“, the modernization of the Stuttgart S-Bahn with the customer Verband Region Stuttgart and DB InfraGO for the Bonatzbau. Employees will be available for personal discussions at around 20 information stands. For families with children, there will be a colorful supporting program with numerous play and hands-on stations. Food, drink, music and attractions invite you to an informative and interesting day on the construction site.
