Stuttgart 21: 10 years of construction site tours - 10 years of transparency - Tickets for anniversary tours are available for the first time on the open construction site days
The Stuttgart-Ulm railroad project association has been offering guided tours of construction sites along the high-speed line between Stuttgart and Ulm for ten years. This gives people a direct impression of the demanding work of the miners, construction workers and engineers. In April 2014, the first documented construction site tour took place at the intermediate approach of the Albabstieg Tunnel in the Lehrer Valley. Since then, around 7,200 further tours have taken place with a total of around 100,000 visitors.
„Interest in the progress of the rail project and the numerous structures has remained high for ten years,“ says Bernhard Bauer, Chairman of the Stuttgart Railway Project Association.Ulm. „Whether long tunnels, open routes or magnificent bridges. The association has shown all of this to interested guests since 2014. Always in coordination with the construction site experts. Always at a high level and in language suitable for everyday use.“ At peak times, up to 30 visitor guides were on duty for guided tours and construction site tours, Bauer continued. „The most experienced guides were already guiding groups through the exhibition in the Stuttgart 21 Tower Forum before the construction site tours were added. The visitor guide with the longest tenure has been working for us for 16 years. And their knowledge of the project history helps them to convey information and answer questions.“
The guests on the construction site tours come to 80% from the region and the city of Stuttgart. Other interested groups came from Asia (South Korea, China, Japan), North America (Canada, USA) and the Arabian Peninsula as well as Europe (including Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, Lithuania, Ukraine, ...). „In 2023 alone, over 1,200 construction site tours took place in the Stuttgart 21 area.
That's almost as many as in 2022, when we were still able to show both parts of the rail project, i.e. before the high-speed line between Wendlingen and Ulm went into operation,“ summarizes Bauer. „We are very pleased that the successful commissioning of the new line and the visible progress of construction work on Stuttgart 21 have led to an extraordinary increase in interest in the construction site tours and this interest continues to grow.“
Tickets for the anniversary tours (18.05. - 20.05.) are available on the open building site days (from Holy Saturday, 30.03. to Easter Monday, 01.04.).
„Due to the anniversary and the great interest, we have decided to create a special format of the construction site tour. We will show how far the project has already progressed around the heart of Stuttgart 21, Stuttgart Central Station,“ concludes Bauer. „In addition to the platform hall, we take the groups into the adjacent tunnels, where there are already tracks. The tour then continues to the Bonatzbau, before returning via the roof of the hall, the future Manfred-Rommel-Platz, to take a look at the assembly halls for the light eyes.“ Four top locations in three hours.“ The almost 600 tickets for this can be purchased for the first time on the Open Construction Site Days. The construction site open days will run from Holy Saturday (30.03.) to Easter Monday (01.04.2024) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. directly on the construction site behind Stuttgart's main railway station. Admission is free.
All information from the association about the open days and the anniversary tours can be found on the homepage www.its-projekt.de as well as on the Facebook and Instagram channels (@infoturmstuttgart).
